Armenia’s international reserves hit a record high – over $5.5 billion

As of March 2026, Armenia’s gross international reserves reached $5.521 billion, marking a 64% year-on-year increase. According to the Central Bank of Armenia.
In February alone, reserves grew by 6.5% or $335 million. The upward trend has continued since mid-2025, with reserves regularly reaching new record levels.
The growth was mainly driven by an increase in foreign currency assets and a rise in SDR holdings at the International Monetary Fund.
SDR (Special Drawing Rights) is a reserve asset created by the International Monetary Fund that can be exchanged for real currencies (USD, EUR, etc.) to support an economy.
What it means
Higher reserves strengthen economic stability, support currency stability, and increase confidence in the banking system.
