Central Bank of Armenia has announced the release of new commemorative coins: a silver coin dedicated to the 350th anniversary of Mkhitar Sebastatsi, as well as silver and gold coins honoring the Armenian church feast of Terendez.
Silver Coin “350th Anniversary of Mkhitar Sebastatsi”
The coin commemorates the 350th birth anniversary of prominent Armenian scholar and founder of the Mekhitarist Order, Mkhitar Sebastatsi.
The obverse features:
- the coat of arms of the Mekhitarist Congregation,
- an image of the Virgin Mary,
- depictions of angels and ornaments from the “Dictionary of the Armenian Language.”
The reverse displays a mosaic-style portrait of Mkhitar Sebastatsi.
The sketches were designed by Lusine Lalayan. The coin was minted at the Royal Dutch Mint.
Terendez Commemorative Coins
Silver and gold commemorative coins dedicated to Terendez have also been issued.
Terendez is an Armenian Apostolic Church feast symbolizing the Presentation of the Lord and is traditionally celebrated with folk rituals and bonfires.
The release of these commemorative coins highlights Armenia’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage.
