In 2025, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) invested €426 million in Armenia’s economy across 26 projects. This marks the largest investment volume in the history of the Bank’s cooperation with the country.
According to George Akhalcatsi, Head of the EBRD Office in Armenia, 2025 marked the beginning of a new strategic phase of partnership. The Bank expanded its support for the private sector, with a particular focus on creating opportunities for young people, women, and refugees.
Akhalcatsi noted that the implemented initiatives contributed to:
- strengthening Armenia’s economy;
- developing the financial system and capital markets;
- implementing environmental and energy-efficient initiatives;
- improving infrastructure;
- supporting refugee integration;
- enhancing the overall quality of life for the population.
It is also noted that the EBRD has committed to allocate an additional €30 million for the development of the Yerevan Customs and Logistics Center, the modernization of Armenia’s customs system, and the strengthening of the country’s economic ties.
What this means in practice
The EBRD’s record investments indicate growing confidence in Armenia’s economy and create a foundation for:
- expanding business financing;
- developing infrastructure and logistics projects;
- increasing the efficiency of foreign trade;
- further development of financial markets.
