Official EUR Rate by the Central Bank of Armenia
Every morning, the Central Bank of Armenia sets the official euro exchange rate. This rate is not intended for everyday purchases but is primarily used for transactions with state authorities, accounting, customs operations, and international contracts.
Important: the Central Bank rate is not the rate at which you will exchange money at a bank. It is more of a benchmark that financial institutions rely on.
In practice, the euro exchange rate in Armenia varies slightly across different banks and exchange points. While a difference of 1–2 AMD may seem insignificant, when exchanging a large sum it can translate into tens of thousands.
In Yerevan, it is easier to find favorable rates: many exchange networks update quotes every few minutes. In the regions, rates are more often based on those set by major banks.
Tip: always check not only the buying and selling rates but also hidden fees. Sometimes an “attractive” rate may result in extra costs.
The euro is a highly dynamic currency, and its value is constantly changing. Factors that affect it include:
- European Central Bank policy
- Global demand for currencies
- Armenia’s economic indicators – inflation, Central Bank decisions
- Global news and events
For example, an increase in interest rates in the Eurozone makes the euro stronger, while a strong US dollar may reduce demand for the European currency.
To avoid losing extra drams, it is better to compare offers from several sources:
- Bank websites – rates are updated daily.
- Online services – where you can track rate dynamics.
- Exchange points in Yerevan – competition is higher here, so conditions are often better.
Lifehack: banks sometimes offer a better rate in their mobile apps than at physical branches.
- At a bank, you will be asked for a passport or ID card.
- At exchange offices, documents are usually required only for large sums.
- When using online banking, a card or an account is sufficient.
